How to Join
The AIA invites all interested parties -- Information Technology (IT), Assistive Technology (AT) companies, content providers, non-governmental and other organizations – to join and participate in furthering our objectives of interoperability among IT and AT products and services.
AIA offers three categories of membership:
- Developers -- companies shipping software or hardware products who participate directly in the working groups and have voting rights;
- Contributors -- individuals and entities with demonstrated technical expertise who review and provide feedback to working groups. Contributors are non-voting members.
- Supporters -- individuals and entities with demonstrated non-commercial interest and general expertise in accessibility who endorse the work of the AIA and want to have insight into its active projects. Supporters are non-voting members.
Developer Members
Developer members may be from the IT or AT industries, and must commit resources to participate in at least one AIA project.
To be eligible to join the AIA as an IT Developer member, a company must have a proven track record of designing, building and supporting hardware, software applications, operating system software, telecommunications hardware and/or software for the information technology industry.
Contributor Members
Contributor members are individuals or entities with demonstrated technical expertise in programmatic accessibility and accessibility programming interfaces that is recognized by a majority of the Developers of a particular AIA project. For example, Contributors might be interested consultants, researchers or engineers who have engineering expertise related to the work of a specific AIA project and who are interested in reviewing and providing technical feedback to that project team.
Supporter Members
Supporter members are individuals or entities that principally represent non-commercial interests people with disabilities. For example, Supporters may be non-governmental organizations, consortium/foundation representatives, or representatives of other organizations with noted subject matter expertise in accessibility or assistive technology requirements and are interested in providing general support for one or more AIA projects.
Currently, there is no charge to become a member in any category, but applicants are subject to approval by the Steering Committee and/or the applicable project team. To join, complete the Membership Application and the appropriate Agreement and return as directed on the form. You will be notified if your participation is approved.
