How to Join

The AIA invites all interested parties -- Information Technology (IT), Assistive Technology (AT) companies, content providers, and other organizations – to join and participate in furthering our objectives of interoperability among IT and AT products and services.

There are two different types of members in the AIA:

• Developers -- companies shipping software or hardware products who participate directly in the working groups and have voting rights; and
• Contributors -- non-voting participants in working groups.

Developer Members

Developer members may be from the IT or AT industries, and must have resources and the commitment to participate in one or more AIA projects. To be eligible to join the AIA as an IT Developer member, a company must have a proven track record of designing, building and supporting hardware, software applications, operating system software, telecommunications hardware and/or software, for the information technology industry; or must have noted technical expertise in programmatic accessibility and accessibility programming interfaces.

To be eligible to join the AIA as an AT Developer member, a company must have a proven track record of designing, building and supporting commercial assistive technology products that help individuals with difficulties and impairments successfully use computers.

Contributor Members

Contributor members are individuals or entities with technical expertise that is recognized by a majority of the Developers of a particular AIA project. For example, Contributors might be interested non-governmental organizations, consortium/foundation representatives, consultants and/or individuals who have a demonstrated interest and technical expertise in the subject of accessibility and of a specific Project, and who are interested in reviewing and providing feedback.

Currently, there is no charge to become a member in any category, but applicants are subject to approval by the Steering Committee and/or the applicable project team. To join, fill in and fax back the Membership Application and the Agreement to the Alliance office at +1 781-224-1239. You will receive notification if your participation is approved.
